Calming down

7 Sep

It’s over a week now since I found out about my Academy place and already it’s helping.  I really feel that to get the most out of the course I need to go with a draft that is fairly well on.  With that it mind I’ve been trying to concentrate on the novel and only the novel.  As ever though things get in the way, but the things which get in the way are now directly related to the overall scheme, rather than lots of perifpheral things.  I had written a press release the other day to announce my acceptance onto the Faber Academy and to promote this site but it took me to today to send it.  It is a bit of a seismic shift to think of myself not as a scribbler, but as a professional writer.

Helping me with the shift is a book called “Is there a book in you?” by Alison Baverstock.  This book isn’t about the craft of writing, it’s about whether or not you have the motivation and guts to see the project through.  In answer to the question: Is there a book in me?  I’d have to say yes, and I’m finally getting it out of me and on to the page, so on with the job.
