Alan Bissett

2 Nov

Saturday was our first all day session, and we started the morning with 2 hours with Alan Bissett (http://www.alanbissett.com/) He is so full of energy and enthusiasm that it is hard not to feel the same way to.  The session was really insightful about the constant struggle between art and making a living.

Alan and Janice are both experiemental when it comes to typography and layouts which is interesting and not something that I have really ever given much thought to – but now I am.  I’m definitely getting more and more into the nitty-gritty of writing, not just about telling stories, but in telling them in absolutely the best way possible.

We spent the rest of the day looking at more openings, by both published authors and members of the group.  I know those in the know say there are no more than about 7 stories to tell, but the fact that we can tell them in so many different ways and styles is always fascinating.

Spent most of the Sunday serving at a coffee morning where we raised nearly  £900 for (among other things) a home for young mothers in Uganda who have been abducted and raped.  Had the privilege to talk to the amazing Sister Rosemary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j3kLa4k9l0) who works with these girls.   Our sore feet pale into insignificance.

I make nice frocks and write average poetry. And there's a bit of embroidery and the occasional rant.
