Don’t think – Do

7 Jan

During the holidays I spent rather a long time in bed – catching up with lots of sleep seemed preferable to being awake in a house with no water (plumbing problems galore).  In the luxurious time between waking up and actually getting up (which only happens during holidays) I thought about all the time I’ve wasted in my life lying in bed (in the days when it was a more regular occurance).

As a teenager and into my early twenties I spent huge amounts of time thinking about all the wonderful things I was going to do and achieve.  Normally, as I was a terrible insomniac these day dreams were normally about 2am, but I could still have got up and acted on them (since they mainly involved writing), but I didn’t.

I’m sure people have made careers on writing papers on why we don’t actually chase our dreams, I think for me it was a combination of fear and lack of self-belief.  Now I’m chasing them,  I do still allow myself the odd long lie, but now I’m putting the thoughts down on paper and building them into something.
