Leaves

15 Jun

I’ve been falling behind with the weekly prompts at Creative Writing Ink again, so here is an old poem, and I’ll try to catch up with the Statue of Liberty prompt before I lose another week.

Leaves: Glasgow to Aberdeen

The autumn leaves that we would kick, kick, kick,

Hold no temptation on my solitary walk.

Some leaves torn from their sap, have withered and died,

While others have simply drifted to a new life,

As I have drifted from the golds and reds of my home,

(Where you remain),

And have come to this grey place:

The leaves’ pavement.

I look up, smiling in the cold sun,

And remember my old life among those like me.

But now, on this new ground, I join leaves

from different trees.

Our tree has no roots.

Displaced people

having only that

in common.

Our tree,

Our hybrid,

Stands not erect,

We chose to fly.

I make nice frocks and write average poetry. And there's a bit of embroidery and the occasional rant.
